• I usually get up early at around 6 am and then go for a morning walk.
• During my exams I get up slightly earlier and like to revise some important topics.
• But, here I would like to talk about a time when I got up extremely early, that was at 1 am, much before dawn break.
• My cousin had come from Italy and wanted to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
• We decided to go by car, because Golden Temple is about 100 kms from my home town.
• We needed to reach there by 3 am, to see the early morning rituals of the Golden Temple.
• We reached well in time.
• The pre dawn time is called ‘Amritvela’
• Every morning, the holy book ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ is brought in the main temple from another building in a palanquin.
• The whole environment is filled with music of the hymns and chants.
• We were thinking that because we had reached so early, we would be able to go inside without any problem.
• But we were so wrong.
• The temple was full of people.
• We just joined the long queue.
• Then after about an hour we could reach inside and pay our obeisance.
• I felt at peace with myself.
• It was a very good experience.
• We then went to the community kitchen and enjoyed the tea and food served there.
• We returned home by 4pm.
• All in all it was a day to remember.(other ideas – exams, marriage of a close family member – going to parlour, Going to airport to receive someone)
