Why do many young people spend a lot of money on music concerts?
Besides listening to music in their headphones, a lot of people prefer the live atmosphere. You know, seeing the performers on stage and hearing fellow fans cheer are totally different experiences. I would say ifs much more fun. You know the Strawberry Music Festival in China that takes place in October every year? A lot of my friends go there even when it’s filled with people. Music concerts and festivals share the same kind of charm. It arouses people like nothing else.
Do you think older people like the same music as young people?
No, I don’t. My parents definitely don ‘ t like the same music as I do. For instance, when I listen to Jay Chow or some other pop singers, my mom would say that the lyrics and the rhythms were totally beyond her comprehension. It seems that they prefer the Spring Festival gala type of music. I understand that each generation has its own popular genres and different tastes. As long as we respect each other’s choices, I think we could live in harmony.
Do you think music concerts are suitable for old people to attend?
No, I don’t. For instance, I’d never take my grandmother to a music concert. Usually the volume is too loud, and the noise is bad for old people. There would always be so many people, and I’d be afraid to lose track of her in the crowd. Anyway, the older generation don ‘ t enjoy the same type of music as young people do nowadays, so there’s no need. What’s more, since they have a higher possibility of getting heart attacks, I would say staying away from concerts is better.
Why do shopping malls often have background music?
Because they want to create an atmosphere suitable for purchase for their potential customers. They rarely play sad, slow songs, you see. People would probably feel happier when listening to merry music, and then they would be more inclined to buy things. For instance, during the Spring Festival, the shopping malls would play Andy Lau’s songs specially written for this occasion, and you feel intuitively the mood of the festival when you hear the music.
