Do people in your country like travelling abroad?
Yes, if you look at the news reports, every year, Chinese visitors flying to international destinations are growing drastically. Well in the meantime, there are still a huge chunk of the population who have not even applied for a passport, meaning there’s a huge potential for international touri* to grow. This is not surprising, of course, as people start to have a higher income, they can afford and would want to travel abroad to visit different countries.
Who prefer travelling abroad? The young or the old?
I think the young ones prefer travelling abroad, as they’re still trying to figure out their life and have yet to settle down. It gives the young people a perfect timing to go out and explore. Needless to say that the young ones usually have more passion and courage to step out of the established comfort zone. But everything I say is in no way deterring people outside the age bracket that they have gone past the time they should’ve traveled. In fact, you should travel when you can.
How much time do you think people should spend on a trip abroad?
I think ideally, three to five days on a city, because that is what I find the optimal range when I would not find myself bored or tired. Generally speaking, I’d like to explore a city as much as possible since I know there may be no second time I’d come by. Three to five days are enough to visit every must- see and taste the must-try, while still having enough time to rest or experience the local life.
Which is better for knowing more about a country? Travelling or reading books about it?
There is no black-and-white answer to this question. They are both essential if you want to know more about a country. Reading books can spark one’s interest or give initial impression that would make us want to scratch the itch to check out a country. As you may know, merely reading about them is not as thorough as experiencing them, and our brain may forget them easily! So to reinforce what we know, we need to see them firsthand. In this case, physically travelling to a country really makes up the experience and solidifies our understanding of the place.
