What’s the best invention in the past one hundred years?

I am thinking of mobile phones. Although it is more of a double-edged sword, without it, life would not be like it is now. Young people do almost everything on the phone, and if we don ^‘ t have it, we would probably be lost. For example, now without our phones, we probably couldn ^‘ t pay or take public transportation. Most importantly, we can’t get the ^££ health code”, which is strictly required upon entering a building. So, I think mobile phones have to be one of the most important inventions in the past century.

What’s the influence of science on human life?

Science has made our life more convenient, that’s for sure. Advanced medical technology has also elongated our life span. But it has negative effects as well. For instance, the older generation do not know how to use *artphones, and this has excluded them from basically all social life. During COVID-19, they couldn ^‘ t get anywhere without *artphones. So, I think science has made the life of some people better, for instance, the young and the rich, but definitely not all of them.

What can individuals do for scientific research?

They can show more faith in scientists and scientific research. Nowadays many netizens question everything—they think scientists are cheats and they don ^‘ t do any good for mankind. They think scientists only care for their own profits and laugh at their findings. That is not true. For example, ifs a highly complicated process to develop the vaccine to COVID-19. But when scientists cannot come up with the vaccine, people think they are incapable. While not all of us could do scientific research, we can at least be more cooperative and trusting.

丄 What influence can international cooperation in science bring about?

It will speed up the process of scientific development for sure. For instance, COVD-19 is a global problem, and scientists worldwide are striving to develop a vaccine. If they cooperate with one another, such as sharing data and testing processes, the vaccine may be developed quicker, and it will be so much better for mankind in general. That’s why what President Trump is doing is hardly good for scientific research, at least. He is obviously not a supporter of international cooperation.
