Describe a time when you changed your opinion
You should say:
When it was
What the original opinion was
Why you changed it
And explain how you felt about it
Once I was not too fond of mathematical modeling, as I thought it was useless and boring . Compared with numbers and formulas, I got more excited about history; science, languages, or other subjects that are easier to connect to personally. And my teachers used to force us to memorize lots of complicated formulas without telling us how to apply them in real life. Studying it was always a suffering journey for me.
However; last month I changed my opinion about it after reading a book called ‘An Introduction to Mathematical Modeling’. My professor David recommended the book, and it changes my stereotypes on mathematical modeling by showing me the power and beauty of models. It introduces various mathematical methods and shows rich examples of how they are applied to real industries, such as Finance.
After that, I realized that mathematical modeling is very important, and it is the key to innovations in most science, technology; engineering, and mathematics-related fields. Besides, I started to feel that it’s very interesting, as it helps us to manipulate the world around us. For example, we can make assumptions, choose mathematical approaches, and assess the solution for usefulness and accuracy. Then we can rework and adjust the model until it provides an accurate and predictive result of the situation.
