The positive change that I would like to talk about is ‘I started playing outdoor games instead ofplaying computer games’. After I got my first personal computer when I was only 9 years old orso, I started learning many things. Besides that I started playing the computer games. Ascomputer games are addictive I found that I was playing the games whenever I had spare times. This addiction barred me from playing outdoor games like cricket, football etc.
I found myself very much attracted to the computer games and I preferred to play the games athome instead of going to open spaces or fields to participate in outdoor games that involvephysical exercises. Not that computer games are all so bad, but playing them all the timesomeone has got is not a good thing especially for kids. I found that I was spending more timesat home than being outside. After my parents noticed that, they discussed with me about thatand explained me the importance of outdoor activities. They gave me strict restriction that Iwould only be able to play computer games for an hour daily and in the evening I’d have to gooutside to play with my friends.
This was obviously a very positive change for me. I’m not against computer games but I feel thatif there are more important things to do, then we should not spend time on computer games only. This change affected me very positively. I became a good cricket player later on, I startedmaintaining my times more prudently and I am sure this change has affected me positively interms of physical and mental health.
Describe a positive change that you have made to your life.
You should say:
what the change was
when it happened
where it happened
and explain how you have benefited from this change
Ok, well the positive change which I would like to tell you about was actually a pretty simple one, but it's improved my life a great deal, and basically all it was, was getting up an hour earlier every day.
The reason I started doing it was because it got to the point where my whole day was taken up with various stuff, like classes and homework, and I found that I hardly had any free time left. So I kind of realized that the only way to make more time for myself was to get up earlier, and so that's what I decided to do. It wasn't easy at first, especially when it was cold, but thankfully it got a lot easier, and now I find it no effort at all getting out of bed at five in the morning,
Anyway, as for when I first started doing this, well, I guess it must have probably been about two or three years ago, round about the time I was busy preparing for my university entrance exams, and I was getting up at something like five or six every morning to revise. And after my exams finished, I remember thinking to myself, wouldn't it be good to continue getting up early and have all this extra time to do things at the beginning of the day.
So that's pretty much how it all started, and finally, with regard to how I've benefited from this change, well to put it simply, I'd say I've benefited immensely, in more ways than one. For example, it's given me time to do a bit of exercise every day, which I didn't use to have time for. So now I've become a lot fitter. And as well as this, I also now have the time to eat a proper breakfast every day, instead of skipping it, like I used to do, so I've basically become much healthier as a result.
That's more or less everything, I guess, so thanks very much for listening.
Notes:
it got to the point where... 的地步
taken up - 被占据
I find it no effort at all - 我现在觉得一点都不费劲
如果被问到an occasion when you changed your plan,怎么回答呢?
This topic reminds me of the time I changed my mind about what I want to do in the future. Here’s what happened.
I’d always wanted to be a teacher when I was little, ‘cause I used to think teachers know everything and it’s the coolest job in the whole wide world. And teachers are highly respected by others.
However, I had a change of mind when I was in high school. At that time, my grandpa was diagnosed with terminal cancer. And he went to all of the hospitals in my hometown, but things didn’t get any better. We were told that there was only 3 months left for him. So in the end, we went to Beijing, and made an appointment with a famed doctor. He treated my grandpa with the most advanced medical technique and drugs that just came on the market. And miraculously, my grandpa lived 5 more years because of this doctor and his excellent team. I am so grateful to the doctor for everything he did for my family.
So from that moment on, I decided that I would be a doctor in the future. It’s a rewarding and fulfilling job. Doctors give people hope, and they comfort patients and their family when they are so desperate.

1.Do you like helping others?
Yes, I do. I enjoy lending my hand to others for the following reasons. Firstly, when you are in trouble, you need others' help as well. So if you are always helpful to others, others will be willing to help you, too. Second, it’s easier to make friends with others after you lend a hand to them. Lastly, helping others can make me feel happy and take pride in myself. In a word, it's the same to help others as to help yourself.
2.In your view, should children be taught to help others?
Yeah, I think the key of education is to teach kids how to land somebody a hand. Firstly, youngsters will become caring and loving instead of selfish and blinkered, which is an important character for their future life. Secondly, children will learn the way of helping others without hurting their self-esteem. Otherwise, their kindness may be misunderstood.
3.How can we encourage children to help others?
There are many ways of encouraging kids to help others. One is to guide them to find the happiness of giving a hand to others. For example, when they help a clas*ate with homework, parents can ask the children whether or not they feel the sense of accomplishment. Also, appropriate material rewards can be delivered to their kindness so that they feel positive when they help someone else.
4.Do you think people are less willing to help others these days, compared to the past? (why/why not?)
Yes, I think. In the past, people were more innocent and naive. When a person was in trouble, other people would help him without hesitation. But nowadays, people have become more and more selfish, they don't want to get involved in the matters that don't concern them. As we can see there are many such examples in the news. For example, when an old man fell down, no one helped him up. And I think this social problem deserves reflections.
5.Do people today trust others as much as they used to in the past?
No, people do not trust others as much as they used to in the past. In terms of close relationships, it is harder to borrow money from friends or relatives now than it was the old days. Because there are many cases revealed by the media that the money is never returned. In terms of strangers, there are many shock stories where many seniors fall on the ground and nobody is willing to help them.
6.How do people in your community help one another?
In my community, much emphasis and care are given to seniors who need much more help than others in general. One way is that the neighborhood committee has a contract with a restaurant which will offer the elderly meals in a lower price. Another way is that the youngsters will be organized to visit the nursing home and give them performances such as singing and dancing.
7.How do students, such as high school students, help each other?
Well, students can help each other in a variety of ways. Academically speaking, they can help with each other’s studies. For example, if one student is sick and absent from a lesson, his clas*ate can lend notes to him and make up for the course. In terms of sports, they can teach each other’s sports skills. For instance, through playing basketball as a team member, those who are poor at shoot at the basket will achieve better scores in the future matches.
8.How can (or, do) charitable organizations help people?
Charitable organizations play a significant role in society. Firstly, they offer enough funding to those who are impoverished. For example, many African children would have been starved to death if no such charitable aid was offered. Also, these charitable institutions offer skills that are vital to life. For instance, many rare diseases are cured because of the attention aroused by these organizations.
9.What are some examples of such organizations in your country?
The Red Cross Society of China can be counted as one such organization. Every time there is an earthquake or a flood, the organization will rescue the damaged and provide the blood to the victims. They will also popularize the first-aid technique throughout the country. China Environmental Protection Foundation can be counted as another. The environmental-friendly institution will reward those who make great contributions to nature.
10.What do you think are the benefits of having unpaid volunteer workers?
There are quite a lot advantages of hiring free volunteers. One is that the costs of holding an event will be substantially reduced. For instance, during the time when the Expo was held in Shanghai, most of the volunteers were from universities and colleges, which lessened the burden of Shanghai government. Besides, these volunteer workers are more sincere and passionate for the job itself.
11.How do you think the volunteers themselves benefit?
The volunteers themselves benefit from the experience too. The most obvious advantage is that they can add this experience to their resume, which will be a great assistance in job hunting. Another one is that they can meet new friends and encounter new ways of thoughts. Moreover, they can get to know a particular field through being a commentator of a period of history or of a piece of jewelry.
12.Should professionals be hired rather than using volunteer workers?
Well, whether to employ a professional or a volunteer depends on the position itself. If the position requires high skills, then an expert will be favored. For example, the person who shows the audience how a colored glass is made should be a specialist. Otherwise, there might be expected accidents. But if the post doesn’t need so much specialized knowledge such as being a guide, them volunteers will be a better choice.
13.Do you think international aid (e.g., from one national government to another), is important?
International aid plays a significant role in global community. For one thing, this measure promotes humanity. To stand by in front of situations where millions of African children are starved to death is definitely inhumane. For another, helping others is equal to helping oneself. For example, if water sanitation and hygiene cannot be achieved in those impoverished countries, diseases will break out and spread to the wealthy nation too.
14.Can you give any examples of international aid?
There are countless examples of where aid has irrefutably brought real, tangible benefits to people in great need. Africa is full of villages that now have clean water wells, built with aid money, when previously villagers got sick drinking filthy water. Perhaps millions of lives have been saved through food aid in countries suffering from famines, and foreign aid money has built high quality hospitals in places that lacked even the most rudimentary of health care.
