As a double major in Anthropology and Psychology at the University of Rhode Island, I have gained a strong background in both fields. My background is especially strong in physical anthropology, my primary field of interest. Physical anthropology consumes my life; I do not study it because I find it somewhat interesting but because I am devoted to it; I want to make it my life. In addition to maintaining a high GPA throughout my college career, and making the Dean's list several times, I have also worked hard as a supervisor at Brooks Pharmacy for the past five years. My research proposal gained approval from the Institutional Care and Use Committee at URI and at the Roger William Park and Zoo where the three species of non-human primates (Gibbons, Sakis, and Lemurs) included in my study are kept. In addition to writing a successful research proposal, I also wrote and received a *all funds grant from the University of Rhode Island in order to conduct my research. By being intimately involved in every aspect of research, from proposal and grant writing to data collection and *ysis, I have learned what it takes to be a researcher, but more than that, I have learned how fulfilling and interesting research can be.

In the spring of 2005, I will be presenting my results at a poster presentation at the University of Rhode Island, and am planning to eventually publish my findings. Not only has this experience shown me that I am capable of excelling in conducting research, but it has also allowed me to develop a love for the hands on learning that is so crucial to successful research. In my final semester at URI, I will be participating in an ongoing research project concerning brain function and attention span under the direction of Dr. Dominic Valentino, a professor in the psychology department at URI. Physical anthropology is more than just my primary area of education; it has also become my hobby and lifestyle. The questions posed and answered via the study of physical anthropology have fascinated me for a very long time and have stimulated me to ask and seek to answer further questions. 美国留学学制的设置介绍

一、学期制

这和国内高校的学制安排是一样的，每一学年分为两个学期，每美个学期安排14-20周的课程，学习的时间在九个月左右，每学期会安排一周的时间作为考试周，大家完成课程的考核。

这样的安排，学生会有比较多的时间，可以安排自己的课程学习，以及准备考试，不管是理论学习还是项目研究，都会有比较充足的时间;不过这样也会带来效率低的缺点，让资源得不到程度上的利用。

二、学季制

一个学年的学习分为了十分学期，每个学期大概有9-11周的课程，还会包括有暑期的课程，会根据四季安排每一个季度的目标，这样大家的学习就会比较紧凑，安排的暑期课程是选修课，可以报备不上课。

安排缩短了教学的时间，增加了学期的数量，让学生可以保持在一个比较活跃和敏感的学习阶段，每学期的课程也会要少一些，精力能够更集中，不过由于时间紧凑，大家要面临的压力也是比较大的。

三、三学期制

这门在欧洲各国中比较常见的学制，目前也被美国引进了，将一年的十二个月等分成了三个学期，学生必须要读满秋季和冬季学期，春夏班可以选修，每年有四次入学机会，完成学业即可申请 毕业 。

第一学期就是秋季班，会安排在八月底九月初开学，在 圣诞节 前结束课程;第二学期是冬季班，每年一月开学，十月结束;第三学期会分为两个小学期，大家任选一个学期入学选修即可。

四、4-1-4制或4-4-1制

顾名思义，即将一学年的学习时间，划分为了三个阶段，包括两个四个月的学期和一个一个月的学期，迷你学期可以安排在学期之间，也可以安排在学期后。

十个月的学期学习即大家正式的专业课程学习时期，大家需要在学校内完成自己的专业学习，迷你学期则会安排学生进行学习交流，或者在校外实习。

第一种类型：F签证

Ten years from now Tim Dickson won't even remember my name. The unknowing recipient of my undying love for two years, Tim had been everything a girl could ever ask for: *art, handsome, witty, and athletic, with a voice that could make angels weep. Everyone knew his name. To a shy little country mouse, nearly invisible in our student body, he was the epitome of manliness. I sat in my corner of room C-119 and gazed adoringly at his profile as he amazed the class of Modern World History with his dashing style. Carefully planning the routes to my classes to coincide with his, I was his silent shadow.

After fourteen months, contrary to my hopes, Tim still was not aware of my existence. Determined to bring myself to his attention, I staged my entrance to his heart with all the flair I could muster. I would breach his defenses at the next history oral presentation in the guise of the dashing Cardinal Richelieu.

It was now or never! Striding into the classroom, my head raised, eyes flashing, I stood proudly, the colors of my eighteenth-century costume catching the light and giving me courage. My opening line shook with tight emotion. "Gentlemen, I am disgusted!" My voice alternately lashed out in rage and purred in soft persuasion. I gloried in my elocution. Each word was power. Whenever I was in danger of reverting to a wallflower, one of my new friends would drag me into another club or activity.
