Four words that often confuse learners of English are dead, death, die and died.

英语学习者经常会混淆四个单词:dead, death, die and died.

比较:

• My cat is dead. 我的猫咪死了。

• It died yesterday. 它是昨天死的。

• Its death was a surprise. 它的死是个意外。

这三个词的区别很简单:

Dead is an Adjective (a descriptive word) Dead是个形容词(描述性词语) Death is a Noun (a naming word) Death是名词(命名词) Die is a Verb (an action word) Die是动词(动作词) Died is the past tense of the verb Die Died是动词Die的过去式。 Look at the following explanations containing a lot more details and examples. To be on death's door = To be very close to dying. Here death is personified. 离死亡非常近,这里的death被拟人化了。 You'll catch your death outside! = An expression used to warn people about how cold the weather is outside. "You'll catch a cold, or worse!" 警告人们外面的天气是多么寒冷,可能会感冒,或得更严重的病。 To do something to death = To do something over and over again until it is no longer popular. Die:动词

The event (action) of death. The opposite of to be born 表示死亡这个动作,反义词是to be born The past of die is died. Die的过去式是died.

• Michael Jackson died in 2009 迈克尔·杰克逊于2009年去世。

• My plants have died from thirst 我很长时间没给植物浇水了,它们缺水而死。

To be dying to do something = to be desperate to do something e.g. "I'm dying to go on holiday" 渴望做某事 To be dying of something = literal or figurative, e.g. "I'm dying of hunger/heat" 比喻义。例如:我要饿死了/渴死了。 Never say die = never surrender/give up 不要放弃。
