The positive experience of my teenage years took place when I was in middle school, and I was probably 14 years old. Our teacher wanted to ask some of us to pay a visit to a nursing home near our school, and I volunteered.

I remember we went there on a Sunday afternoon and we were supposed to help the old citizens with some daily stuff, such as helping them eat their meals, cleaning their rooms and accompanying them on a walk.

After everything was done, they looked so happy and grateful. And we could sense the joy and satisfaction of helping others. I think what I benefitted most was the kind of love and care that I could offer to make others feel that they still mean something to the society. And just like our teacher said, *all effort counts!

The event I’d like to describe is my English study that changed my life completely. It happened 13 years ago when one of my best friends Alex told me about this English club that he went to, and he wanted me to join him so he wouldn’t feel lonely there.

It happened in my hometown, where I was born and raised. My hometown is a *all city so many people there want to go abroad for better education or living environment. Alex wanted the same thing at that time.

The change was that after I began to learn English with him, I found purpose in my life. I was no longer the man fooling around every day with no knowledge of where my future was! I started to make friends with people who also studied there, and they helped me improve.

I benefited a great deal from this experience! Now, teaching English has become my career, something I rely on for a living and a purpose in life. I can’t imagine how my life would’ve turned out without it!
