As far as I know, Adelaide, where I had spent a couple of years on my bachelor degree studies, was named by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 must visit cities for 2021. This amazing city, which is the capital city of South Australia, has a population of slightly more than one million without any dramatic change in recent years. I used to walk around the Central Business District of the city quite often after school. It took me only 20 minutes to go from one side of its main commercial street, Rundle Mall, to the other side, which did surprise me a lot in the very first place, to be honest with you. The city centre, nevertheless, is surrounded by a handful of parklands, since the residents there are just lazy! It is also a blend of wide streets, local cafes and restaurants as well as historic buildings. To put it simply, Rundle Street in Adelaide’s east end includes a huge variety of historic pubs and family-run cafes and restaurants. Moreover, Norwood Parade, which is five minutes away, is enormously European influenced. On the other hand, Gouger Street, where most my birthday meals took place, is close to Chinatown. For most overseas students in Adelaide, I suppose the Adelaide Central Market would be the best place to hunt for all the Asian food. In terms of accommodation, you will easily find boutique hotels, apartments, seaside resorts, and heritage cottages. Most of them are located in the CBD of Adelaide; nonetheless, a load of accommodating places can be also found nearby North Adelaide and along the coast. The Adelaide International Airport is only seven kilometers from Adelaide City. All in all, Adelaide is pretty convenient for you to get around with hills to the east and beaches to the west, which costs drivers less than half an hour to travel in between. That’s what Aussies call livable.
The upcoming Mad March provides the Adelaideans with the best event season of partying in the days and on the nights. Again, based on Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2021, Adelaide has been “transforming itself into the perfect host city… (with) some of Australia’s most popular sporting and arts events”, for instance, the Adelaide Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Still, the very first time I tried Australian wine was on my first birthday celebrated in Adelaide. Long time ago, Australia National Wine Centre was magnificently built in Adelaide, South Australia, where more than 80% of the Australian wine are produced.
Another attractive part of Adelaide would be Kangaroo Island., which has been recognized as the jewel in its touri* crown. The full picture of Kangaroo Island contains pristine beaches, unique wildlife, amazing sunsets as well as a drop of wine. You cannot miss this iconic destination if you want to explore the most fascinating bits of Adelaide; even it needs two hours’ drive plus a short ferry ride south of Adelaide.
You might be wondering what the weather is like in this gorgeous city. Well, overall, it’s pretty hot and dry in summer from late November up until early March, with the average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, while in winter, with 16 degrees Celsius, it’s rainy and freezing, which is the only season of the year that you do not have the blue skies!
